Hello,

I've just joined these forums. I was so inspired and grateful for the magnificent work done on Dual Orb II and Wozz that I wanted to express my joy and gratitude in these forums :)

About me? I have done a little hacking work in the past - I worked for YNT for a while on Arabian Nights. I created a title screen for that game, though sadly Kam seems to have disappeared into the either.

I also created a complete Metroid hack - 'Metroid Captive' - some 7 or 8 years ago. There are some links on Youtube somewhere...

Finally (I think) I inserted a new english title screen for Youkai Club for Pennywise.

Needless to say - I love translations, and SNES RPGs are my favourite still. Presently my every waking hour is spent wondering if the following will ever be (fully) translated:

Dragon Quest VI
Herakles IV
Solid Runner
FEOEZ
Arabian Nights
G.O.D
Granhistoria
Oni II
Last Bible III
Traverse

So yeah. That's all I can think of writing :) I'll finish by saying that the translators and hackers in this scene are simply my heroes. I admire their work so much.

And also - if any little bits and bobs of graphics need translating - I'm probably qualified to help out :)

Thanks!

SPJ

Oh, I didn't know you were involved with Pennywise and Kammedo. I've seen the Arabian Nights title screen. Nice work. :)

I wish Kammedo would reappear and pick his projects back up. A few were nearly complete, but some deal breaking bugs exist for those left to carry on his work, Arabian Nights being the biggest.

You should add your Metroid hack to ROMhacking.net.

I like making predictions:

Dragon Quest VI
I think someone may do this one day, but since the DS remake came out and the fact that the translation is mostly complete, I'm afraid chances are low. I don't think there are any current efforts.

Herakles IV
We've hit translation set backs and the menus are going to be extremely annoying, but so long as I am alive it will see completion. I haven't quit anything in 15 years (that someone else didn't already complete) and I don't intend to start now.

FEOEZ
You may be unaware, but in the past few months the script has been dumped and fully translated. This game will definitely be completed, likely by byuu. Even if he fell through, there are now at least two other guys that would do it. Chances are very good. :)

Arabian Nights
This one will get done. I forget who is currently looking at it for Pennywise, but if they fall through I will likely eventually complete this. It's mostly done.

Solid Runner
G.O.D
Granhistoria
Oni II
Last Bible III
Traverse

I think all of these, or at least everyone but Solid Runner has had some substantial work done on it. Obviously most efforts have fizzled, but I think work is floating around for them if anyone is seriously interested. Some of them were Bongo's. There's a good chance Dynamic Designs will pull one of those unfinished Bongo efforts out of the hat. I think Gideon used to have Granhistoria as a project.

I don't have much personal interest in any of those, but when I revolutionize my methods with my TextAngel and nuVWF projects, I thought about several projects to apply them to to get them quickly half done for others to finish. That's dreaming a bit at present, but I think it's something that can be done.

There's plenty of hope yet. I mean just look at the NES translations people have pulled out of the hat in recent years. The barrel isn't empty and our community just keep reaching until it is. Then, when it's finally empty, I'm sure some people will be re-translating!

Yes! I should add the Metroid hack to Romhacking.net - it is on Zophar's domain already.

I used to be in regular contact with Kammedo. His Arabian Nights translation was so close to completion at one stage - I remember him telling me at that it was maybe 3 months away from completion (he was aiming for a Christmas release 2009, as I recall).

I hope he's OK - always struck me as quite a sensitive soul in some ways. I loved working with him and wish him well.

It's funny you say 'There's plenty of hope yet'. I am of the opinion that the quality and frequency of releases in the last couple of years has been very encouraging. The NES RPG translation scene is on fire, as you point out, and FEOEZ is going to take some stopping now (what an amazing team that project has!).

On the tools side - your work on TextAngel is very exciting. I also read something very enigmatic that byuu is working on:

:) So yeah - the scene is looking really strong thanks to you guys :)
