cool! man, i can't believe that i missed out (like many people) on stuff like these. i mean, my generation is nintendo, super nintendo/sega genesis and the game boy/gamegear. at the end of the snes era, i was still sorta young, well i was 11--so, i wasn't really interested in the rare stuff which i'm starting to be now.

"thank you" for having found those sites, specially the first one. maybe i'll buy something sometime. awesome!
unlike the collectors though, i prefer playing with my consoles. heck, i still play with my snes from time to time.

I to have started to collect games/consoles, i keep what i buy in the best condition poss but i still use/play with the things i buy.

Back on topic, i have tried searching for the funtech company name or at least a history of it to try and find some more info but the name "funtech" is now used by a graphic design company.

Will keep trying to find more info but dont think i will have much luck.

That's me.  I'm Alien Workshop on the ASSEMbler forums.  Also, those pictures on hawanja's site, those are pics of my first A'can unit.

i was thinking in Canada, that's where i am.
anyway, we got loads of small independent shops who sell a bunch of games. heck, some of them sell brand new games. for example, if you'd wanna buy final fantasy 7, 8 and 9, you could easily get them new.

Unless you're in Taiwan, finding an A'can in a game shop will be near impossible.  Even in Taiwan this stuff is uncommon.

What about those of us who live on the opposite side of the straits?

maybe. but, i'm sure i could find something. it's like if we have some underground 'thing' going here in Canada. as long as you know where to go, you can usually find what you want. as for the A'can, maybe it's out there somewhere. after all, some people must have bought them and sold them to stores afterwards.

Was thinking this myself, or maybe the company merged with another and took on a new name.

Not really sure where to look to find out wheather this happened or not.

merger, good point. could have happened. although, the question remains- with which other company? assuming it was a merger of course. if we figure that, we may figure out the rest.

Is there ne one who knows some 1 who lives in taiwan who could possibly trace the history of this company, or for that fact ne one at all who could trace it.

Hopefully there is some kind of records of this companies trading history and wheather or not it merged/went buckrupt or ne other possibilities.

You MIGHT be able to find one in Hong Kong, but it's unlikely.

So I guess checking in Zhongguansun, which is basically the Akihabara smasher of China, will probably turn up dry then ...
