when i downloaded this: Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1: it said the following: setup is preparing to update windows: i only want to install that newer version (i have the one right before, i think), but NOT the windows update... for personal reasons...

IN THIS CASE, does it install the windows updates? OR do the "updates" simply designates the version of explorer? (in THIS case)

Ugh.. it's updating your system files. LET IT! It has nothing to do with windows update.  Install the new version of Internet explorer and let it finish. You are paranoid main.

but, what can i say? i'm too 'soft' to seek problems with uhm, law enforcement in any way.

i'll do all of that now.
