Just so you know Silva is a latin word meaning woods, or closely tied to the woods, it porbably came to brittain and the sorounding areas as a result of the invasion of Gaul or when Rome went really far westward.

My last name has its roots in Brittish/Scottish decent, James, from what I can trace back it was changed to James from jameson or somethign like that that (I cant speak those crazy old languages but I am certain D would know, he's good at that old english stuff)

Oh, how cute, what an appropiate name for a guy that lives in A DESERT! :P

Still, the name Silva... I'd never heard of it in British areas, but it's pretty much a Portuguese/Spanish surname. Both those regions derived their languages from Latin, though, so I do see a connection there.

I've never heard of any British Silvas either. I think Next Gen Cowboy just didn't read our posts right.

I knew a kid whos last name was Silva, I never knew where he came from cause he was a "gangsta" and his accent covered up any form of accent he would have, plus I did not like him much so i never talked to him

Although in the end he turned out to be fairly cool kids, very smart, I imagine he had some irish in him but I doubt it was his majority.

Sobodash, which is an Ellis Island mutilation of something close to Szobadas (which I cannot type correctly because I have no clue how to type Hungarian double-accent marks on an English keyboard), which I'm told by my former boss's 90-year-old Hungarian mother means "a person who makes things."

I asked if she meant "builder," but she said no, then I asked "carpenter," "taylor," "farmer" and several other professions that produce, and she said no to them all. Apparantly it's more general than that. Maybe it's something like jack-of-all-trades, which would be astoundingly fitting.

My last name means "someone who works with metal".  Smith

My first name means "Old or Wise".

So my full title is either Old guy that works with metal or Wise guy that works with metal.

I prefer the second one. ;D
