WTF?  That's not even English.  I think Shakespeare has completely skipped rolling in his grave and has gone straight to doing The Robot.  :P

That's pure crap.  That's a contributing reason why children are growing up so stupid today.  I can't even stand to finish reading that article.

OMFG

I can't believe this uttmost crap is actually coming from an university professor! I just had to read Hamlet in school, not that I liked it very much, but "2b?Ntb?=?" is the sickest insult of literature I ever read. I always thought that the daily soap operas and talk shows our youth is spammed with turns it dumb enough, but that the universities actually help that development  :-X

I cried when the first papers from my students in CHINA contained "ur" and "smth."

mades

oh my gosh! yeah, uhm, what does all of that mean? i'm 21, and i don't understand people who are 16 or so... wow! now, i know how parents must feel!

You raise a good point. This kind of thing really makes me feel old and start to see a generation gap.  I really do have a hard time comprehending younger teens today when they write or talk.

There's a whole new generation of slang terms that are completely retarded.

One hatred of mine is when people say something is 'dope'.  I think people using that term are the 'dopes'. I realize the English language is ever expanding and plenty of common terms we use today were slang words of yesterday and/or had definitions added to them, but it still annoys the hell out of me with many of the retarded words people use today that aren't yet officially part of the language or don't have the defined definition they are being used with today.

They sound like retarded people.  I suppose that's the way it's always been though.  Our grand parents and great-grand parents and sometimes even our parents probably think we talk a bit differently and sound retarded to them.

Look at old English from the Shakespeare era.  A large percentage of the language used then has been updated, replaced, and/or added to. I have to think a bit when I read literature from that time period to comprehend what I'm reading.

Language evolvement is certainly an interesting thing.

Or language deevolvement in this case, internet lingo has invaded the real world
If you don't know what this is, you don't know how screwed you are

Did you notice that these Textmessages closly resemble cavespeak  ;D

If this is how languages evolve over time I don't want to know how the youth will speak in 50 years from now :(

Oh man, people around me are actually saying "LOL" as in lolliop.  I do however find intrest in entymology (I think that's the field).  Perhaps we're angry because us old foggies are seeing everything change around us.  ALthough when somebody uses the term "Sic" I wish to give them a pile driver into an outhouse.

What's next? Canterbury tales?
Megaman makes everything better.  baking, soccer, racing, radio shows and of course the average pool party.

It's "douchebag."  Erm, you do know what a douche is, right?  I really don't want to have to explain it.  x_x
