This is the back of my Windstruck DVD that I picked up from a subway vendor in the Wang Fu Jing stop. I think it's the finest example of Engling I ever saw while in China.

Engling (or Yingling) you ask? Well Engrish is a play on a l/r phonetic defect in Japanese that Chinese lacks, so it's not a very applicable term for the FUCKED English produced in Zhongguo (example, how the purse floor in TianYi has a sign saying "SKIN BOXES")

P.S. -- Don't watch Windstruck. It's a chunk of dog shit. While I liked Jeon Ji-Hyun in White Valentine and My Sassy Girl, this movie absolutely sucks shit. It's basically two hours of her bad Olympus Camera commercials strung together in totally nonsensical scenes which do not flow at all. On top of that, it even fails as eye candy since bulky police blazers with shoulder pads are not exactly flattering.

Ha.. that's cool.  I love how capitalization outside the first word in a sentence is non-existent(mainly for names).  I assume 'Clear' is a name? Actually, that entire desccription was rather hard to follow.
I'm not even sure I got the right idea.

That was really quite bad. Nightcrawler, there aren't that many actual sentences to be cpitalised in that lot, just words followed by a full stop. D, how many languages can you speak? Have you seen a movie called Shiri?

I can speak English and Chinese, though my Chinese isn't good enough to say, sit down and debate string quantum theory with someone (in other words, I know enough to get around in China with no difficulty and have conversations with people that aren't terribly deep).

I can READ and UNDERSTAND Japanese really, really well, but I can't speak it at all. I've only been to Japan once and it was on a layover, my only other chances to speak were in classroom. I really, really hate the language and their economy is collapsing so bad, in another 4 years it will be useless to speak anyway since virtually all business is going to China and India.

I can also speak and understand a little Spanish. I studied it for 6 years in school, but never really used it so it takes some time to dredge up. 7 days of watching the Spanish channel is usually enough to start getting me understanding the language again. I have an easier time reading it than listening to it (probably because I've read lots of Spanish webpages for emulation/ROM info).

I used to know how to read (as in phonetically, not comprehend) and write in hangul (Korean) but I've forgotten it. Their alphabet is only 20 letters so it's something you can just learn and forget as needed.

Anyway, the babelfish on that picture you posted is almost unreadable. Why do they print English text and an cover if the product itself is Korean only anyway? Some things I will never understand...

I find it easier to read and write Japanese than speak it by far. The Japanese people at uni I speak to feel the same way about English.

I find that reading/writing any language seems to be easier than speaking it.

Except for actually writing Japanese.  I can't draw Kanji for teh life of me.  I'm lucky to even draw any kana for that matter.

I can speak more Chinese than I can write, but that's from living there and talking with people. There's a lot of shit I know how to say that I really don't know how to translate into English... I guess that's what happens when you're not learning from a textbook but from actual people.

Well, from my own past my Chinese writing skills dimish faster than my reading/writing skills.  Of course, I can still write Chinese, but they look uglier than an elementary school kid in China/Taiwan and there's a load of characters that I already forgot on how to write (but still recognizes when I read them).

Yes. When you don't write them daily, you definitly forget.

What's worse is typing doesn't really count as writing practice because normally you remember how to write them by strokes, not by some photo of an image in your head. :-/

Acutally, for me it's by sound.  I have pinyin set up now as my input method and it's working, for me, better than traditional zhuyin.  I don't remember where each keys are at, but I have to remember the sound and then put them together into pinyin first, and it's probably a reason why I don't usually forget how a character sounds.
