The one problem I have with having so many games at my command is that I can't play just one.  It's usually one hour on one, then another (you know out of curiosity) that eventually I just get bored and end up playing nothing really.

Just like with MAME (never mind that 91% of MAME games are utterly horrible or are dedicated to majjhong)

Ha ha, I have that same problem. I couldn't even finish the games I have with two lifetimes. I like to think of my box as more of a timecapsule or history of videogames that I may show off to my kid one day.

Descent huh, i'll have to stroll over to xbins and see what your talking about. I remember hearing about it but haven't been in the news loop in awhile.

I don't think our kids would be that interested in what we have.  They'd probably just go online download about 57 Xbox games in about 5 minutes with Kazza 3.6.2.6.4.3.56.9 then laugh at how bad they are then go play their 78 dimensional games.

:(Sad but true, but not always. :) Video games have been with me since the atari 2600 and have stayed with me since, meaning they have been apart of my life for quite some time. It is important to remember where it all started and what kept making it better and stronger.

I'm still young and don't have any kids yet, but I believe the games in the past, an important lesson can be learned from. In my opinion, in some ways the industry has lost that flame it used to have and picked up political bullshit just as almost everything else has. I can hope that further generations don't lose sight of the true purpose of a game , an experience to stimulate the imagination. Whether a great story or engaging characters, whether emotionally driven or a feel good time, a game is there for your imagination to take flight with friends or by yourself. I know mario can satisfy me better than the now gen on a shitty day, not because of violence, nudity, or graphics but because of gameplay(hence game) and I think in some ways it has changed for worse. Then again with imaginations such as the creator of Shadow of Colossus and many others that push the way we see and play games, games also have a very bright future indeed. Sorry to ramble but I feel passionate on the subject.

MARIO in 78 dimenions WHAT!!! ;D

*sniff* that post makes me cry tears of joy *sniff

Still I get pretty bummed out knowing most kids don't know about the SNES anymore.  Thank gooness for emulation.

I must admit i have a 360, but i also have many other machines as well as mega drive, snes and many others.

When ever i can i will buy games for the older machines, more so than the newer 1s.

Nothing like mashing your way though streets of rage( 1,2 or 3) or getting stuck into secret of mana or 1 of the many other great games on these machines.

With new games it seems the companys are trying to hard to make the gaming experiance a great 1 that they are infact ruining it, with this happening i find myself leaving alot of my newer games unfinished, but with the older games i find myself imersed in the game play and i want to finish them.

p.s

Sorry about the spelling :P

I wouldn't say you'd buy older games as opposed to newer games because new games are bad, but the older games brings back nostalgia which is really the only reason I can play through them.

Not saying they are worse, but the older games seem to have a certain something.

Maybe its because the older machines didnt have the processing/graphical power of todays machines, there for more empasis was put into the game play.

Some of the newer games still do capture this, kingdom hearts was one of these, easy to play, great main chara and supporting charas that are known to adults and children alike and a great strory line(imo).

But in contrast look at the suikoden series, i absolutly love suikoden 1 and 2 on the playstation, so much to do with collecting all the playable chars and mini side quests, but suikoden 3 was never released in uk so missed out on this 1 and then uk got suikoden 4, i played this game a little and put it down and there it has stayed.

It just seems to me the games prodution companies are trying to hard to provide a graphically great game and letting the game play slip a little.

Once again i am not slagging off all new games, just some, same as some of the older games did when they where released.

Don't feel bad about suikoden 3.  It was awful.

I do understand what you're saying.  But Sometimes I think game companies don't nessesarily finish the job with most games which is a large turn off.  A good example would be Megaman legends (the RPG one) it was a great game but it was so freaking short with little mini quests.  I feel if they had just made it at least a 30+ hour game it would have been fantastic.

Same with Prince of persia 2 warrior within.  Had they just fixed all the glitches it would have been a great hit.

And a good example of a game well done in this era? try the Baten Kaitos series (well okay there's only two)  Though generally looked down upon by doubtful gamers it was a solid game with good lengths fair amount of mini quests, kickass music and character and an interesting new battle system (which they improved in the second one too).  Of course they still couldn't get the voices right :[

And you know what? that game had awesome graphics.  It was so visually appealing.  So in that sense that game shows that graphics can matter.
