Xbox 360's?

Anybody that visits this board one of those silly people who stood in lines for hours, paid too much, or stole an xbox 360 from some 13 year old kid?

I'm amazed at how fast and well Xbox 360 sold.  I can't believe it. People are willing to pay ridiculous prices for a video game console that has less to offer over it's predesessor than SNES did to NES 15 years ago.

I look at the Xbox 360 displays and can't help but be dissapointed. THIS is the next generation? If they were using Hi definition displays, I couldn't tell the difference between an Xbox 360 game and a Xbox, game. It's certainly nothing a new PC couldn't do already.

Im tired of the "The Pc can do this" routine, because think about it:

Pc gaming-Costs about $1000 plus for a good gaming computer, plus you have to upgrade to  play the games on their highest settings.

If Xbox 360 has PC game graphics and costs $400, plus you dont need to upgrade your video and sound, I think the Xbox 360 is the better deal.

Most people cant afford to play PC games on their highest settings. ;)

That logic is very flawed. Do you think you play your Xbox games on their highest setting? No.. you play them on whatever settings the developers set for you that the Xbox hardware can run.  That doesn't mean the game is being played to it's fullest graphical extent. It's an OPTION on the PC because people don't all have the same hardware.  Look at some Xbox ports of PC games. The PC version can have BETTER visuals than the Xbox with the same exact game.

The costs aren't really that far apart. A Geforce 7800GT costs about $299 right now. That will put just about on par with your Xbox360.  That's actually CHEAPER.. Add in 1GB of extra ram.. there's $100.. It really depends on if you need to buy anything else. Depending on your existing computer, that may be all you need.

The PC also serves many more purposes than your Xbox can ever hope to depsite being a dubbed a 'pc in a box'. So if there's a small premium for adding a wealth of additional tasks your product can do, that justifies the cost and the two are not comparable on a cost basis because you're not getting the same things out of each product.

It's really only video.  Aside from the recent X-fi, we haven't had much sound developments in the past 7 or 8 years. And even that's been marginal.

Anyone who can afford an Xbox 360 probably can.

The Xbox 360 is NOT the next generation.  It's just a cheaper gaming alternative than playing the latest on your PC and even that's debateable depending on what you have and need.

However, by the end of next summer when Nvidia and ATI release their next generation of cards, the PC will surpass Xbox360 and it's old news. Consoles get old fast.

My biggest problem is how this is the next generation when it fails to be so more than ANY past generation of gameing consoles.

I've also heard theres defects with the 360.  I"ve heard that the fan in the back blows out and stops working which then leads to a melted mother board.  the 2nd I've heard was the cable they use.  Remember the cable they recalled? guess what they're using.  That's right the very same.

I am not interested in this console. In fact I think Microsoft hurt the console market with their x-box already enough. Instead of buying rpgs and creative games, more and more people buy M$s Shooter crap, because it has best grafics and they don't have to think. Publishers see that and stop working on creative games or good rpgs and spam the market with stupid shooters. This will get even worse with X-Box360, cause, it has nothing to offer but better grafics, so what to do with it? RIGHT! MORE SHOOTERS!

In my opinion console and computer market were totally different. The games for both were unique and could only be done right on one platform. But thanks to X-Box console and Pc market are practicaly the same today. There is almost nothing left that is unique to one market (maybe RTS on computers). That is why I actually switched back to Nintendo after I played mostly only PSX in the late 90s. They are the only ones who still deliver console-games in the way I like them. The situation with RPGs is slowly getting better after N64 had none. But for the few good PS2 RPGs I have one too, but the only non-rpg I played on it were MGS3 and Guilty Gear XX ;).

Hey, I have an xbox, and I -love- it.

...of course, mine's very different from your standard, just-out-of-the-box xbox which only has 8 gigs of HD space instead of 120 and can't play movie files or emulate games, but hey ;)

Nice response. ;)

Some of that should be fixed with the Xbox 360 as many more 3rd party publishers are on board.  For example Square/Enix is making games now for Xbox360.

Heh, those posts just brought to mind a horrible image. An FPS created by Square/Enix... the horror!

Now, I haven't been keeping up to date that well, but isn't Dirge of Cerberus an FPS?

Who cares?  But from what I've gathered from screen shots it looks more like a Devil May Cry type of deal.

That's rather what I gathered from them, too.

It's also what I've gathered from the screenshots of the new Devil Summoner game :/ It's a shame how many games are turning down that direction these days...

Blame X-Box ;)

No joke aside, I think as games become more and more mass-media like movies and TV, games have to adjust to the level of the new audiance. And when you look at what this audiance demands of TV (the less complicated the better) you can imagine how games will look like in 5 years.

I gotta say I prefer console gaming. I prefer the simplicity of "put game in box, turn box on. Play.".  ;D
And it hurts to sit straight up for hours in front of the PC. :P
At least with the console I can lay down and play (but maybe that's just matter of how my equipment is arranged).
And what if you have "or compatible" hardware on the PC? Will it work? Maybe, maybe not.
Got FF11 sitting here, but it's functioning as a paperweight at the moment. My PC more than meets the "minimum requirements" on the box, but yet the fact that the benchmark runs slow and choppy makes me a bit afraid to open and install this thing with my current hardware (especially as I've heard each copy can only be installed once).
Not to mention that the variability of hardware makes it hard to tell what's the problem when a game doesn't work.
(yeah, I've heard that's true to a small extent on consoles. Namco claims Xenosaga 1 won't work on early PS2's (dual-layer DVD incompatible), slimline PS2's won't play a few PS2 games (and I actually own one of the offending games), I've also heard some issues with GBA playing a few GB/C games. But that doesn't usually amount to more than a handful of games.)

QuotePc gaming-Costs about $1000 plus for a good gaming computer, plus you have to upgrade to  play the games on their highest settings.
I payed 5000sek (about 500$) for my PC 3 years ago (reused my harddrives & screen from my old computer), and i can still play all modern games. I borrowed Q4 from a friend simply to see how well it would run on my computer, and guess what? Medium settings: Running as smoothly as one would expect a console game to run on a console (not that console games always run smoothly *remembers the bombgame in majoras mask*, but they shuld). Will i pay 4000sek for an Xbox 360? Nope, never, the majority of the games released for the Xbox were released for the PC, and the same will most likley be true for the 360. And when a console is that expensive, i dont see much of a reason to buy it, instead of a PC. You can get a decent PC (minus the screen, but on the other hand you have to buy a TV for the console to be of any use) for that amount of money, and the PC will most likley give you much more enjoyment.

Also, buy a cordless mouse & keyboard, and you wont be confined to sitting infront of your computer, instead you can move around the room and use it (I often use my computer from bed... i simply plug it into the TV. For me the TV is more of an extention of my PC than anything else)
