Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, and 1 (heh, Metroid frenzy ;) )

Someday I'll play Prime, but I need a GC first :\

I just beat Legend of Dragoon this past weekend.  That's the first game I've had time to beat this year.  At this rate, I'll conquer all of 4 games the entire year.  That will of course be up one game from last year's 3!

I take that back for a second.  I was able to beat Tierra's remake of King's Quest 1 last week, but the entire game only took me about 3 hours to beat.

I don't know what game will be next.  I think I won't be playing any for a little while.

I'm probably going to beat Der Langrisser again for a little player's club (gamefaqs snes board).  Of course, my labs and all that stuff is preventing me from playing too much >.<

I can't seem to beat that remake of KQ1. (nor the second either)  I even consulted a walkthrough, but it didn't help much >.<

Congrats Nightcrawler on upping two games on your beat game list of the year ^^.

Nightcrawler

Where are you stuck at in the remake? How many points? What items do you have.

There is a possibility you will be unable to beat the game.  That was a big problem with some of the earlier Sierra games.  They allowed you to solve puzzles with BAD solutions where you gave away an item you needed to beat the game and then you are just plain stuck forever and need to start over.

Is it just me, or is that some shoddy-arsed design work on Sierra's part then?

Yes, yes it is...

They did the same thing in Space Quest. I remember getting to a non-returnable point in SQ2, save into the only slot that I had for the entire game (I admit, that was a mistake), only to die because I missed an event that I can no longer return to... regardless to say, SQ2 is still on my 'to complete' list :\

I do believe that in the KQ2 remake though, they fixed the design problems where you couldn't beat the game... like the snake on the mountain...

Nightcrawler

They didn't fix them for part I though.  If you don't get the mushroom before you enter the leprecaun cave at the end, you can't get out and are stuck.  You can also give away the royal treasures of daventry to the troll and be stuck again.  Those are the only ones that come to mind off the top of my head.

I think Tierra worked all of those out in the remakes though. I remember, right after they came out, they actually had people trying to find those kinds of full-stop game killer scenarios so they could be squashed.

I managed to beat the KQ2 remake, but hated the bit with the seahorse and the dark cave. That sucked -_-

TechMaster

Yeah.  I played pass that point in the KQ2 remake, but not finishing the game.  Yeah, that undersea part.  It definitely wasn't pleasant.  It's a good thing that I can skip some of the puzzles (since I really don't know how to solve that treasure safe puzzle >.<).

Unless they released a new version since I last played it, I'm pretty sure you can get stuck in a no-win situation in KQ1. Another no-win that I've heard about is that if you go through the cave to reach the clouds, a dwarf can run by and possibly steal one of the three treasures of Daventry from you, thus preventing you from finishing the game (why doesn't Graham just give the treasures he found so far to the king for safe keeping?)

Oh, and I never got the throne room puzzle either... I tried twice then quit... :)

Nightcrawler

Yeah, the 'stealing dwarf' no win situation is still there in the first one.

So far, I haven't come across any no win's in KQ2 remake yet unless you count saving at a bad time where you don't have enough time after a restore do to what you need. For example, when the sharkey's chase you out of the cave and you ahve to close the cave with your trident.  If you save as soon as you get out, you don't have enough time to shoot the cave before the come out and your screwed.   I got past that undersea trident part the other day and am on my way to getting the second gem.

The throne room puzzle was easy if you watched the sharkey king open the door.  You just had to mimic what he did.  If you weren't paying close attention though, forget about it.
