Anyone else played this yet? I recently finished it, sure it doesn't really resemble the previous games in the series, but it does have some nice innovations, like using traps on monsters, and (even though this is hardly original) no random encounters. I thought it was good, but BoFIV was better, with its combo system and stuff. The music for DQ is really good too :)

HOWEVER...

I had the misfortune to play the evil PAL version, which for reasons unknown, Capcom Europe removed the temporary save function present in NTSC versions. Now, as anyone who's played would know, this seriously screws up the game balance - I don't like being forced to play for long periods of time, and it certainly made it very difficult, probably much more difficult than the other versions, which were supposed to be hard enough already.
I can't see why Capcom would do this, an option to have temp saves on or off would have been fine, but removing it altogther?!!? Bleh.
To add insult to injury, the manual says that you _can_ make a temp save when you quit, but this is just bullshit, they must have just copied the US manual.

Great Red Spirit

I got Dragon Quarter for Christmas, but I also got Valkyrie Profile and I also got Lunar Eternal Blue to work on my PS2, so DQ has been on a low-priority play right now :P

I figured out the 'temporary save' thing after I cleared the first real dungeon (where you get Nina)... I was mad... that place took forever...
If you don't know what this is, you don't know how screwed you are

Still working on BoF2 for GBA (never beat the SNES version, but came close when I used to rent the game to death). A little disappointed that Capcom apparently can't punctuate a single sentance correctly, but other than that, good port of a good game.
And I've also started to play BoF3, which is competing with Dark Cloud, FF7-9, Lunar Legend, and others for my time. How did I get so far behind in my RPG playing?  >:(

I hear you King Mike.. I am in the same boat. I have tons of RPG's left to play.  I have a handful from SNES, most are from the PSX era, and I haven't touched the PS2 RPG's yet aside from renting some to try out.

That's mostly becuase I didn't have a PSX until about a year or two ago and I have had very limited time and just can't play through very many.  I am very far behin also..

There's also the fact that I spend more time hacking games than playing them!  ;D

Don't even get me started about that peice of crap sorry excuse for a translation Bof2.  It's actually a decent game.. just a horrible translation.

I've got Bof3 and Bof4 lined up for me to play eventually too.. but I haven't gotten to them and only played 2 or 3 hours of each back when I got a copy of them.

The insulting thing about Bof2 GBA is that Capcom left the translation intact from the SNES version, as in they were too lazy to change it, when it is universally recognised as one of the worst Japanese to English translations in existence. A shoddy translation is barely acceptable one time round, but certainly not twice.

Capcom blows goats these days anyway. If you ask me, the only thing keeping them afloat is the endless stream of recycled fighting games that the stupid fanbase keeps lapping up like hungry puppies.

Well said.. I totally agree.  Although I really do like Marvel vs. Capcomp 1+2.  I guess I lap that up like a hungry puppy!  ;D
