Several months ago, YK over at SNESmusic.org redumped the soundtrack to Wozz and found what he believes to be 6 unused songs. Other than one that I think I may recall hearing, I believe he is correct and they are indeed unused. I never got around to investigating very deeply for unused data on many of my projects. That's quite a find, more than the usual round of unused material. I wonder if there are associated unused area data or script. Unfortunately, I don't have time to look, but maybe one of these days.

Ffor anybody interested:

That's a very nifty find, and a lot of unused material.

Is it possible to use "Unknown Song 4" as the music played during bosses?

Nightcrawler

Sure, it would be possible. The songs are stored in the ROM. It's just a matter of modifying the pointer and/or code to call the new song during boss battle events. It probably wouldn't be too hard with some probing of the sound engine. It could be just a matter of changing a song index.

I thought you were interested in doing it and just looking for some help on how to do it.

No, I don't have any plans on doing it. That's beyond the scope of anything I intend to do with Wozz. Sorry.

I was shocked to see that the game had hidden music files.. it confuses me why producers don't remove unused music/graphic files from games before releases to cut down the size of the cart/disc.. or whatever but hey-ho! glad they didn't on Wozz I loved playing that game.

I often wonder the same. It seems in some areas they try so hard to save space, but then you find other obvious areas that seem to be overlooked.

I would imagine there is some business related reason such as last minute changes, budget constraints, or time crunches where it had to be fixed to work in a hurry. I can easily see scenarios where there may not be adequate time to selectively identify and remove small things, adjust code or offsets that may need it afterwards, recompile and retest the project.

I think one of the unused songs was used in a room that was hosting a tournament. Also, one of them sounds like the music used for Balam's Castle.

By the way, maybe someone else could make Unused Song 4 the song that plays during boss battles.
